Top things to do IN DISNEY with an infant

We first took the baby to Disney when he was 2 months old for his cousin’s first birthday. Some people might think thats crazy but there’s actually plenty of things to do with an infant at Walt Disney World. I know he only had his first round of shots but we just couldn’t miss out on a trip Disney and his dr. said it was ok. If he was going to get sick it was going to happen whether we were over there or over here. We also have a huge family and they all want to hold the baby. In reality he was going to be introduced to less germs on vacation then at home. So we went to Disney!

1. Meet the Characters

Probably the BEST thing you can do in Disney with an infant is the character meet n’ greets. Each park offers different characters in different areas. Sometimes they are just walking in the street and stop to say hello. Either way you will want your child to meet and interact with these characters because it is awesome! The prince and princesses actually talk to the children making them (and you) believe they are real. Since “it was all started by a mouse” Mickey should definitely be on your picture list. He is also the most sought after picture so if you are only there for one day, you may want to consider getting a fast pass. Logan was only 2 months and didn’t really know what was goin on but for this Disney lovin’ mom, I caught it all on camera.

Mom tip: fast passes are available up to 30 days before your date of travel if you stay outside Disney property. If you stay in one of the Walt Disney World resort hotels then you can pick your fast passes up to 60 days beforehand.

2. Watch the Parades And Shows

Another fun thing to do with little ones is to watch the parades and shows. Disney offers several parades throughout their parks but my personal favorites are Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom and the Move It! Shake It! MousekeDance It! Street Party. The parade is really cool because of the big floats, beautiful and colorful costumes, and fun Disney characters waving at the little ones. The street party is really fun because you can literally dance with some of your favorite Disney characters. Even if your infant doesn’t like it, YOU will have a blast (and burn some calories too).

3. Go On Rides

You might not realize it but your infant can go on many rides at Disney, especially at magic kingdom park which is tailored to the younger audience. We went on Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, Its A Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, among others. As long as there are no height restrictions you are good to go. Keep in mind the theme of the ride and whether you think your child might get scared or not. Haunted mansion might not be the best choice for a small child. Pirates of the Caribbean is also dark for alot of the ride.

4. Character Breakfasts

My favorite thing we did during our trip to Disney World was enjoy a Character Breakfast. They can be a little pricey depending on which one you choose but I am telling you, the experience is well worth the money. The characters each come to your table one by one as you eat and interact with your child. They also pose for pictures. We got to meet Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Donald.

Mom tip: reservations for dining at Walt Disney World are available up to 180 days before your desired reservation date.

5. Have Fun At The Hotel

Having a small child at the Disney parks with the heat can get tiresome for both parents and children but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end. Disney hotels have so many fun things to do. You can enjoy a character themed pool area, games around the pool and most hotels now have movie nights scheduled. There are also game rooms and various other entertainment things you can take advantage of. Your hotel can be that perfect place to relax and have some fun too.

Other fun things to do

While we were at Magic Kingdom park we took Logan for his first haircut at Harmony Barber Shop. It was such a wonderful experience, even though he was only 2 months old. The ladies were really nice and patient and we got a certificate and mickey hat. PS they do great adult cuts too. My husband did not want to be left out of the fun.

Disney Springs is a great place to go with an infant. It’s a nice outdoor mall where you can walk around with your stroller. They have fun themed restaurants for the family to enjoy with interactive rooms that change color and play sound (T-Rex and Rainforest Cafe). For parents, there are endless shops to take advantage of with name brand stores from all over the world. There is also a movie theater and bowling alley if thats more your thing. We just enjoyed walking around and the cool air.

One other very important thing to note when traveling to Walt Disney World is that they are VERY baby friendly. Take advantage of the baby centers. We spent ALOT of time there. The one at Magic Kingdom is the largest of all the parks but each baby center has a nursing room with rocking chairs for breastfeeding moms, bottle warmers, microwave, and high chairs. They also sell extra clothes, diapers, wipes, and baby food. If you forget anything or run out of anything baby related, the baby center is the place to go.
